Last week, our LEGO League team ‘LEGO Treasure Unearthed‘ put their STEM skills to the test at the annual FIRST LEGO League UK National Finals at the Harrogate Convention Centre.
It was a packed and exciting day with the team of seven young innovators from St Margaret’s taking part in activities, presentations and robot challenges alongside 67 other groups from across the globe.
Pupils embraced the international STEM competition atmosphere, enjoying the chance to meet teams from around the world – including a memorable moment sampling chocolate and horse‑milk cheese from the Kazakhstani team.
Cheered on by the Brazilian team, they began with the first Robot Game of the day. After a nervous start, their second run earned a perfect score for the missions they attempted, placing them 36th overall.
In their Innovation Project presentation, pupils showcased their Multi‑tool for Archaeologists, impressing judges with their clear communication and strong use of the design process. Their Robot Design presentation also earned praise for its detail and thoughtful strategy.
Head of Computing at St Margaret’s, Mrs Mitchell said: “For a team completely new to Lego League (and among the youngest competitors) our pupils represented the school with enormous pride. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, teamwork and curiosity shine throughout. We are incredibly proud of everything they achieved.”
