Our Year 5 pupils were incredibly lucky to undertake a four-week organic cookery experience, led by expert chef Peter Vaughan. Transforming the Hive into their very own ‘Hive Bakery’.
From crafting traditional Irish soda bread to perfecting their own homemade pizza, the school filled with the unmistakeable aroma of fresh baking much enjoyed by pupils and staff alike.
This hands-on programme went far beyond the kitchen. Peter inspired the children with his passion for home baking and organic ingredients. They explored the science of yeast and gluten, practiced key baking techniques and learned the importance of organic, seasonal ingredients and home cooking in a world full of processed food.
Not only did they learn baking techniques, their programme presented the opportunity to tackle special spellings and test their maths skills through measuring and multiplication.
Experiences like these are designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and confidence – transforming beginners into passionate young chefs, eager to share their skills at home with loved ones.
