Year 4 pupils took their first residential trip to Mill on the Brue in Somerset last week demonstrating our school values of curiosity, courage and compassion.
After a sunny start leaving school on Monday morning, the group arrived in a rainy Bruton. However, even soggy clothes and wet feet could not dampen the spirits of our intrepid Year 4s. 4C Frogs spent the afternoon building teamwork skills on the low ropes course, tackling challenges such as ‘Float the Duck’ – before hurtling down the hill on grass toboggans.
Meanwhile, 4H Owls took on the Assault Course and Great Wall, where agility and speed were put to the test – not to mention swinging to safety over Dylan’s Bath and avoiding the murky green waters below.
On day two, the action continued with a full programme of activities, including canoeing and water slide, a particular favourite despite the chilly temperatures! The group then ended the day singing around the campfire and, of course, toasting marshmallows.
Miss Coombes, Year 4 Class Teacher said: “We were so proud of how every single one of our children challenged themselves, stepped out of their comfort zones, supported one another and embraced new activities.”
The trip was a wonderful opportunity for the children to grow in confidence, resilience and friendship, creating memories that will stay with them for years to come.
St Margaret’s pupils Phoebe said: “Now I know I can do things that at first seem a bit scary.”
Hattie said “By giving canoeing a go, I now know that I can steer it well and its actually very fun and calming” – and Leo commented: “I know that I can count on my friends.”
