A WARM WELCOME FROM OUR HEADS

Mr Alex Hopkins is responsible for school life at St Margaret’s Prep, supported by Mrs Anne Wakefield, as Head across St Margaret’s and St Mary’s Calne. Mr Hopkins and Mrs Wakefield have been in their current posts since 2024.

A message from our Head of Prep, Mr Alex Hopkins

‘At St Margaret’s Prep, we are dedicated to nurturing and inspiring excellence in every child. From age 2 to 11, our children are inspired to think deeply, explore boldly and grow into confident and curious learners with bright futures. Guided by our shared Calne Values of curiosity, compassion and courage, every St Margaret’s pupil is encouraged to Be Bold, Be Kind and Be You.

In our stunning campus of 27 acres, which we share with St Mary’s Calne, our school is full of energy and purpose. Every day is rich with opportunity, whether children are tackling a tricky maths challenge, performing on stage, learning to code or simply asking brilliant questions.

Academic excellence is at the heart of what we do – not through pressure, but through passion. Our carefully crafted curriculum stretches and supports every child, combining rigour with creativity to embed strong foundations across english, maths, science and beyond. Small class sizes mean our teachers truly know each pupil – their strengths, their learning style and how to help them aim high.

But success here is never one-dimensional. We believe that a well-rounded, co-curricular education nurtures not just the mind, but the whole child. From art and sport to music, drama, outdoor learning and enrichment clubs, we encourage every child to discover what makes them come alive – and to take pride and satisfaction in trying new things.

We know that children learn best when they feel happy, seen and secure, which is why wellbeing is woven through every aspect of school life. Our nurturing pastoral care, supportive relationships and emphasis on emotional health help children develop the confidence to embrace challenges, bounce back and celebrate their own progress – and the progress of others.

Our pupils leave us ready for the next step – not just with strong academic results, but with curiosity, compassion, courage and a real enthusiasm for learning, contributing and excelling.

I invite you to explore our website and learn more about the exceptional opportunities that await your child at St Margaret’s Prep. Thank you for considering us as a partner in your child’s educational journey. I look forward to welcoming you to our school community.’

A message from our Head, Mrs Anne Wakefield

‘As Head of both St Margaret’s Prep and St Mary’s Calne, I am proud to lead two wonderful schools. United by a common ethos rooted in our shared values of curiosity, compassion and courage, academic excellence flourishes in our warm and welcoming community where we support each of our children to Be Bold, Be Kind and Be You.

With both schools sharing our stunning 27-acre campus, St Mary’s Calne and St Margaret’s Prep enjoy unique access to stunning natural surroundings and superb facilities.

Alongside innovative and stretching academic programmes, we offer diverse co-curricular opportunities to every pupil, from our youngest learners right through to Sixth Form.

From their very first days at St Margaret’s, children are inspired by passionate teachers and a nurturing environment that encourages them to grow in confidence and character, always with respect for their fellow students, teachers and community.

This strong foundation of self-belief and compassion ensures a smooth and supported transition to senior school – often continuing just across the campus at St Mary’s Calne, where pupils are supported to aim high, think independently and flourish both inside and outside the classroom.

Whether your child joins us at age 2 or up to aged 11, we are here to guide, support and champion every step of their educational journey, giving them the confidence they need to grow through challenges, contribute meaningfully and fulfil their unique potential.

I look forward to welcoming you.’
