who we are

CO-CURRICULAR

A St Margaret’s education goes far beyond the classroom. Alongside a broad curriculum, pupils are encouraged to dive into a wide variety of activities, trips and experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence and nurture the whole child through our stimulating co-curricular programme encompassing sport, music, art and design and performing arts.

Brilliant opportunities inspiring curiosity, creativity, ambition and learning

CO-CURRICULAR

Sport

Children love sport at St Margaret’s in PE and games lessons as well as our extensive range of sports clubs, making the most of our exceptional facilities. Every child is encouraged to try something new, develop existing skills and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with playing, practising and spectating. We have specialist coaching in rugby, netball, hockey, swimming, football, cricket, athletics and climbing, with opportunities for martial arts, cross-country, ballet and yoga.

We believe in competing, and playing to win. Children learn about teamwork, resilience, how to enjoy success and how to deal with the disappointment of not winning sometimes – after all no ambitious sportsperson can win every time.

Art and design

There’s nothing quite like seeing our children express themselves confidently through art. Our art and design programme gives pupils the freedom to explore ideas, experiment with techniques and grow their imagination in surprising and exciting ways.

From drawing and painting to printmaking, sculpture and textiles in lessons, children work with a variety of materials, supported by modern studios and specialist teaching. They’re also encouraged to take part in local and national competitions, gaining recognition and pride in their achievements. Alongside practical skills, pupils are introduced to art history, giving them an insight into different artistic styles and perspectives. Through this rich mix of practice and inspiration, our children discover not only their talents but also the joy of creative self-expression.

CO-CURRICULAR

Music

Every child has the opportunity to perform, create and develop their musical talents at St Margaret’s. Alongside twice weekly lessons combining practical skills with music appreciation, technology and composition, our co-curricular choral programme and ensembles nurture music in children at every level.

From choirs that compete nationally to string groups, rock bands and orchestras, children enjoy a rich variety of opportunities to perform. Informal concerts and major events, including our Spring and Christmas Carol Services, showcase their progress and passion. Individual lessons are available in a wide range of instruments, with many pupils achieving notable success in music exams. Whether singing, playing or composing, every child has the opportunity to find their own musical voice.

CO-CURRICULAR

Performing arts

Performing arts at St Margaret’s gives every child the opportunity to step into the spotlight. Whether taking part in class productions, assemblies or larger performances in our purpose-built hall, children grow in confidence as they develop their voices, creativity and stage presence.

Through drama – both inside and outside of classes – pupils learn to think imaginatively, work collaboratively and communicate with clarity – skills that extend far beyond the stage. Through regular performance opportunities and whole-school events, our children learn to embrace new challenges, express themselves with confidence and carry themselves with pride.

We offer LAMDA lessons and many pupils taking LAMDA exams.

Trips and visits

Our exceptional range of trips and visits are a vital part of learning beyond the classroom. Making the most of the school’s location, every year pupils love their visits to Hampton Court, Cotswold Wildlife Park and historic Bath to see the Roman Baths. Each trip connects to the curriculum sparking curiosity, deepening understanding and bringing subjects to life through real-world experiences.

Our brilliant programme of residential trips starts in Year 3 with a gentle introduction where pupils stay overnight at school, culminating in an exciting and memorable trip to Isle of Wight in Year 6.
