Our values of curiosity, compassion and courage are shared across St Margaret’s and St Mary’s Calne
PATHWAY TO ST MARY’s
Known and valued
Pupils at St Margaret’s are able to apply for a place at St Mary’s in the spring of Year 5, before applicants from other schools who apply and sit their 11+ assessment in the Autumn Term of Year 6.
As St Margaret’s senior school, staff at St Mary’s already have a good knowledge of each pupil at St Margaret’s – her strengths, achievements and character. Detailed academic data, teacher insight, and pastoral care shared across both schools, means girls applying to St Mary’s from St Margaret’s are not required to sit formal 11+ entrance assessments.
PATHWAY TO ST MARY’s
Settling in with confidence
Transitioning to senior school can feel daunting, but the Year 5 pathway is designed to make it a natural step. By spending time at St Mary’s ahead of Year 7, girls joining from St Margaret’s become familiar with the community, routines, and expectations.
At St Mary’s, pupils in Year 7 and 8 join the Lower School, based at St Prisca’s, which is also the boarding house for our Year 5 and 6 boarders.
