During Book Week, St Margaret’s invited children and parents to donate books to Nkoaranga School in Tanzania, a primary school located in the Meru area 70km west of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Nkoaranga School is home to 60 children aged between 3 – 14 years and faces many challenges that would test the resolve of most pupils and teachers – including limited access to running water and electricity.
The team were so delighted with the response from the St Margaret’s community. Many bags of books were collected full of fiction and non-fiction, picture books for the younger children and longer stories for the older students. Plus, some books that the school had multiple copies of in the library – so plenty of wonderful reads that pupils will be able to enjoy.
All donated books have been passed to parent Mrs Shaw for delivery to the school and Mrs Beach, Year 6 Class Teacher said: “It’s wonderful to support another school and its pupils. Knowing these books will be read by children so far away is something of which we can be very proud.”
